3/4 Carat Diamond

What is a 0.75 or 3/4 Carat Diamond

A diamond's size is denoted by its carat (ct) weight. A 3/4 carat diamond weighs the equivalent of 150 milligrams, or 0.15 gram.

The Standard

While some customers may prefer a whole carat diamond for their engagement band or wedding ring center stone, others see the beauty of smaller sized, more affordable diamond center stones such as 3/4 carat diamonds. 0.75 carat diamonds are a close second to one carat diamonds in terms of their appearance, their size and their respective value.

What About Size?

A diamond's actual carat weight will not necessarily be reflected in its appearance. 3/4 carat diamonds may, in reality, look smaller than 0.73 carat diamonds, as certain diamond cuts and shapes may cause a diamond to look smaller than it actually is.

To get a feel of the diamonds appearance when set face up, simply calculate the distance across the diamond's top, since, in most diamond cuts, the diamond's crown will be the widest in diameter. Keep in mind that diamonds set into settings which are designed to enhance their natural brilliance and sparkle may appear larger than they actually are and that diamonds with a good cut grade are more likely to appear larger in size than diamonds with a poor cut grade.

Three Quarter Carat Diamond Prices?

A customer may find that a 0.75 carat diamond will be less expensive than a one carat or two carat diamond, the reason being that the price of a diamond is directly influenced by its carat weight, as well as its cut, clarity and color grades.Consequently, a 3/4 diamond with a higher carat weight will be more costly than a diamond with similar cut, color and clarity grades but of a lower carat weight.
