What is a One Carat Diamond?
The carat (ct) is the name of the standard unit used to measure the weight and relative size of a diamond. One carat is equivalent to 200 milligrams or 1/5 gram.
The Standard

What About Size?

Diamonds with a better cut grade will reflect an optimal amount of light, making them appear brighter and larger and certain settings, such as halo settings, can make the center stone diamond appear larger.

The price of a diamond jumps significantly at every full carat. This means that a 1.00 carat diamond is worth nearly 20% more than a .99 carat diamond which is only worth about 1% more than a .98 carat diamond.
